It has been a couple of years (or longer) since we have regularly been blogging, and one of my goals for 2020 is to turn that around. For those who are new to this space, or new followers of our life and ministry in Kenya, WELCOME! Allow me to introduce ourselves.
We are Derek and Lauren Webber, a PA and Nurse/Homeschool Mom who are serving as missionaries in Chogoria, Kenya. In 2013, we moved to Uganda with a 3 year old and 1 year old, and now have been serving in Kenya since 2016 with two additional kids in our fold.
These days find Derek working at the PCEA Chogoria Mission Hospital. He works in Casualty/ED, providing staff training in this department, as well hospital-wide training for ACLS/BLS, and other continuing education initiatives. He works on a team of 12 American & Kenyan medical clinicians to bring strong and compassionate clinical care to the Chogoria community and beyond. Before going into healthcare, he worked in church ministry for a number of years and still has a heart for the teaching and preaching of God’s word. Therefore, an additional scope of his ministry is to regularly pray for and encourage hospital chaplains, serve as a deacon in our local church, and serve on a rotation for preaching at church and teaching of our weekly community Bible Study.
I (Lauren) formerly worked as an ICU nurse for about 8 years prior to us starting a family and moving overseas. Since moving overseas, the Lord has given me a heart to minister first and foremost in our home and community. I homeschool our children, co-facilitate an American/Kenyan homeschool co-op, serve in the way of hospitality, and also meet regularly (most of the time with a kid or two in tow) with our hospital chaplains.
We are a family on mission. We believe that wherever you are, God uses families to connect and carry out His plan of redemption in this world. We value child involvement in ministry, and see it as a crucial means in raising the next generation with eyes wide open and a heart that desires to make Him known in whatever community He places them in. Thus, we seek opportunities as a family to be His hands and feet together.
If you are interested in following our journey, stick around! Our lives are very full, but I promise to try and write more frequently than every 2 years from here on out. Don’t hold me to it, but that is a personal goal for at least 2020 J
