Two

Is it possible that my firstborn is two years old already? Oh, sweet Lucy, how I wish I could re-live every single day we've had together and bottle each sweet memory into a jar and hold them there forever! You have truly been a blessing to your Daddy and me. God's Word instructs us to "teach [our] children in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart from it" (Prov 22:6) However, some days I think you have taught me more about the grace and goodness of God than I have taught you!

You seize life with reckless abandon. 

Your eyes twinkle with anticipation of the unknown.

 Not knowing what each day holds, you look for adventure that is bound to be there.

You believe in the magical, whimsical things of life.

You show compassion beyond your years.

You rejoice with those who rejoice, and you mourn with those who mourn (Rom 12:15)

You give warm pats on the back after receiving discipline.

You marvel at the works of Creation, and give glory to God for His beautiful gifts.

You listen to the instruction of God's Word and tuck it away in your little heart.

In the middle of the night I sing over you, and you are quieted by God's love (Zeph 3:17)

And when I am old & gray, these are the things I want to hold dear! I will open that jar and the memories of your laughter and joy will be a sweet fragrance to my heart.
